With more than 8 million tons of plastic being dumped into our oceans every year, and 5 trillion pieces of plastic floating around as we speak, the world really needs to make some drastic changes if it wants to reverse course and save its oceans.
That said, it’s been inspiring to see efforts such as “The largest cleanup in history“, and runners made from recycled ocean plastics, as well as rethinking how we package and use products more responsibly.
Yes, our household has also been making its own small efforts in reducing its footprint on the environment. But with an advertising background, and now shooting my own photography, I thought it was time to dig a little deeper.
Since this is a problem we’re facing on a global scale, I thought it would be smart to create a powerful message that was mainly visual so it could be understood quickly by anyone, in any language. So that’s exactly what I set out to do when I conceived the “hand cuffed” graphic, which I captured the other week at a nearby beach on Vancouver Island.
Unfortunately I can’t give the rest of the creative away just yet, but with some art direction, this message will be sure to be heard loud and clear with possible support messaging. Maybe even a stunt 😉
